Hints & Tips

Firstly, keep it short! You may like the sound of your own voice, but others won’t. 😀 Sorry, but it’s true! a 20-minute video of you rambling on about everything under the sun will put people off. If you want to create a history of your progression over the years, of course you can do that, but for a video to introduce a product or service, just get and stick to the point. People want to know what you can do for them, and they are impatient! I like to create videos that are between 2 and 3 minutes long, for the most part.

Set the tone quickly. Is your video going to be amusing, serious, hard-hitting? It’s best if you just choose one tone instead of bouncing back and forth between them.

Remember, you are trying to connect with your audience, so if you are trying to sell something, smile, even if it’s just with your voice. Don’t try to be too ‘clever’ by using a lot of big words and expressions that most people will struggle to understand. Just keep it simple and to the point, don’t show off!

Potential customers seem to prefer video to website or newsletter text. It’s more attractive and engaging. And, even in this day and age, there are still people who struggle to read, so a video could be just what they need to know about what you can offer them.

Importantly, do your research. What you are offering may only appeal to a selective audience. How can you use video to reach them? What search terms would you use if you were trying to find your own service or product?
